Though I am originally from Canada, I have been living in Singapore for the last three years because of my husband’s work. I thought it would be hard leaving everything that I know behind. While I do miss everyone back home, Singapore has definitely grown on me. Even though I have been here three years, I am still learning new things. I visited my first TCM clinic in Singapore not that long ago, and I really had my eyes opened with that experience.
I had not been feeling well for a couple of weeks. At first, I thought it was just a cold, but my symptoms lingered on for much longer than what they would have if it was just a basic cold. I was seeing a Western doctor for my checkups every year, but the only thing he told me for this was to rest and let nature take its course.
I usually have no problem with doing just that, but I had deadlines I needed to meet for my own work. I talked with a friend at my job, and she is the one who told me that I should look into traditional Chinese medicine. She told me that it is sometimes more effective than western medicine, and she swears by it every time she needs to go to the doctor for something.
She gave me the name of the clinic that she goes to, and I was able to get in for an appointment the next day. I explained what was going on, and I was given Chinese herbs with instructions on how to take them. I did, mainly because I wanted to feel better, but I am not sure I was convinced it would help me. Thank goodness I don’t cave in to feelings like that though because I was feeling better than ever just a few days later!
